What happened

Reliance Worldwide is recalling Cash Acme Heatguard Temperature Actuated Flow Reducing (TAFR) devices used on lavatory faucets and showers. The thermal element in these devices can fail, allowing water hotter than expected to flow through, which poses a scalding injury risk. The recalled models—Shower Safe Assembly SD-LF (#24718), Tap Safe Assembly TD-LF (#24719), and Shower Safe Assembly SD-01 (#24110-0000)—were sold between December 2014 and May 2015 and may be found in homes, child care centers, hospitals, hotels, and motels.

Consumers with recalled TAFR devices should use caution when operating faucets and showers with these devices installed. According to the recall notice, affected consumers should contact Reliance Worldwide to receive a free replacement TAFR device. The company will mail a replacement with installation instructions and a postage pre-paid envelope for returning the recalled device.

This recall involves Cash Acme Heatguard® brand Temperature Actuated Flow Reducing (TAFR) devices. The Heatguard® TAFR is a metal, cylindrical-shaped thermostatic device used on lavatory faucets and showers. TAFR flow reducers sense high temperature water and reduce water flow if the temperature achieves 120° F (49° C). These devices may be used in private and public housing, child care centers, hospitals, hotels and motels. The following three TAFR models sold from December 2014 to May 2015 are included in the recall.
