Pali Design Recalls Children's Furniture Due to Tip-Over, Impact, Suffocation Hazards

Is my product affected?

Children's furniture

  • Brand Associate Yang Enterprise Co. Ltd., of Vietnam
  • Brand Pali Design Inc., of Canada

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Pali Design is recalling armoires, combos, dressers, hutches, and bookcases from seven furniture collections manufactured between January 2006 and September 2010. The plastic restraint straps designed to anchor these pieces to walls can break, allowing the furniture to tip over. This poses serious hazards to young children, including bruising, broken bones, head injuries, and suffocation.

Consumers who own recalled furniture should immediately move the units out of reach of young children and contact Pali Design to obtain a free retrofit kit. The kit includes newly designed restraint straps, mounting hardware, and installation instructions. To identify whether a unit is recalled, consumers should check the white sticker on the back of the furniture for the model number, product name, and manufacture date in YYYY-MM-DD format.

Hazard

The plastic restraint strap used to attach armoires, combos, dressers and hutches to a wall can break and allow the unit to tip over. Falling furniture can result in a wide range of injuries to young children, from soft tissue bruising to broken bones, head injuries and death by suffocation when a child is pinned under a heavy piece of furniture.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately place the recalled armoires, combos, dressers or hutches out of the reach of young children and contact Pali Design for a free retrofit kit that contains newly designed restraint straps, mounting hardware and installation instructions.
