What happened

Cosco Inc. is recalling approximately 6,000 Voyager Car Seat/Strollers due to a fall hazard. The product is a combination infant car seat that snaps into a stroller frame, and when used as a stroller, the car seat could become dislodged and fall to the ground, potentially injuring infants. The affected units have manufacturing dates from September 8, 1997, through October 27, 1997, and were sold nationwide from September through November 1997 at retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Ames, Service Merchandise, Caldor, and Montgomery Ward for approximately $79. The manufacturing date can be found on the car seat itself, which is imprinted with "COSCO" on the front and includes a fabric canopy and seat pad. Cosco has not received any reports of car seats actually becoming dislodged.

To obtain the repair, affected consumers should call Cosco at (800) 221-6736 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST Monday through Friday to receive in-home repair instructions. Until the repair is completed, consumers should not use the car seat as a stroller, though the product remains safe to use as a car seat or carrier. Consumers may also write to Cosco at 2525 State Street, Columbus, IN 47201.
