Werner Ladder Company and Kentucky Ladder Company are recalling approximately 400 Space Master sliding attic ladders (Model WS2308) sold nationwide from January 1997 through May 1997 for about $75. The ladders feature a metal hook designed to lock them in the stored position, but on some units, this hook was installed upside down. When the hook is upside down, the ladder may not be properly secured in storage and could become dislodged, slide down from the attic, and potentially injure someone.
The CPSC and Werner have not received any reports of injuries from these ladders. Consumers who own a Space Master sliding attic ladder should stop using it immediately and contact Werner toll-free at (888) 523-3372 for instructions on how to inspect and repair the ladder, or write to Werner at 93 Werner Road, Greenville, PA 16125.
