What happened

Papel Freelance Inc. is recalling approximately 28,000 pencils that feature miniature pacifiers in place of erasers. The pacifiers detach very easily from the 7-inch wooden pencils, creating a choking hazard for young children. The pencils, which were sold in pink and blue from September 1996 through April 1997 at retailers including Winn Dixie and Hallmark for approximately $2, are marked with "PAPEL/FREELANCE Taiwan" printed on the side and have cream-colored pacifiers measuring about 1.5 inches wide. No injuries have been reported in connection with these pencils.

Consumers who have purchased these pencils should take them away from young children immediately and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. For additional information about the recall, consumers should contact Papel Freelance Inc. at (800) 634-8384.
