Is my product affected?

Full Speed Ahead BB30 Gossamer crank sets installed on numerous makes of bicycles

  • Brand TH Industries, of Taiwan
  • Brand Full Speed Ahead, of Woodinville, Wash.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Full Speed Ahead Crank Sets featuring "Gossamer" branding were assembled as original equipment on numerous bicycle models from manufacturers including Bianchi, Cannondale, Trek, Felt, Fuji, Quintana Roo, Litespeed, Raleigh, and Scattante between 2010 and 2011. The recalled crank sets are identifiable by black arms with white "Gossamer" printing or white arms with black "Gossamer" printing, and have serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, or 10D located on the backside of the non-drive crank arm by the pedal threads. The recall affects only the double crank sets (two drive gears), not triple crank sets or MegaExo model crank sets.

The hazard involves the non-drive crank arm's fixing bolt, which can crack or break if over-tightened, causing the arm to fall off the bicycle and potentially causing the rider to crash and suffer injuries. According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using affected bicycles and return them to the dealer, where a replacement non-drive crank arm will be installed at no charge.

Hazard

If the fixing bolt is over-tightened on the non-drive crank arm, the bolt shoulder can crack or break. If this occurs, the non-drive arm can fall off the bicycle causing the rider to crash and suffer injuries.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles that have the recalled crank arm sets and return bicycle to the dealer. The dealer will install the new non-drive crank arm free of charge.
