Black & Decker electric-powered miter saws
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Black & Decker is voluntarily recalling twelve models of electric miter saws manufactured since 1982 in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recalled models include Black & Decker models 1703, 1703-1, 3090, 3091, 3417, 3417-04, 7715-1, 7715-04, 7716, 7716-04, 7717, and 7718, as well as Sears model 901.23470. The hazard is that under certain circumstances, the lower guard may not return to its original safety position after cutting operations, leaving the blade exposed and creating a laceration risk. Two injuries have been reported related to this problem.
Consumers who own any of the recalled miter saws should stop using them immediately and call Black & Decker toll-free at 1-800-541-7136, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT, to request a retrofit kit. The kit includes a spacer and screw that will be installed on the upper guard to ensure the lower guard returns to its proper safety position. Only a screwdriver is needed for installation. Black & Decker will mail kits directly to consumers who sent in product registration cards. Sears customers should contact their nearest Sears Service Center, and other consumers may take their saw to the nearest Black & Decker service center for installation of the spacer.
