Ski-Doo® Snowmobiles

  • Brand Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., of Valcourt, Canada

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

BRP US Inc. is recalling Ski-Doo® snowmobiles from model years 2008 and 2009 due to a safety defect in the drive axle assembly. Cracks can develop in the welded joints of the drive axle, potentially causing complete breakage. When this occurs, the snowmobile's track can unexpectedly lock, which may throw riders from the vehicle or cause them to lose control and collide with people, objects, or other vehicles, risking serious injury or death.

Consumers who own affected snowmobiles should immediately stop using them and contact their local Ski-Doo® dealer to schedule a free repair appointment. The recall includes specific model numbers for 2008 models such as MXZ X 800R PowerTEK, MXZ Adrenaline 600HO SDI, GSX Limited Touring 600HO SDI, and Summit X 800R PowerTEK, among others, as well as the 2009 MXZ TNT 600HO E-TEC. Model numbers are printed on the side panels of the snowmobiles. BRP is sending direct notice to consumers with recalled vehicles.

Hazard

Cracks can develop in the welded joints of the drive axle assembly of the snowmobile and can result in complete breakage. If this happens, the track of the vehicle can unexpectedly lock, causing riders to be ejected off the vehicle or lose control and collide with bystanders, a fixed object or other vehicles. This poses a risk of serious injury or death.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately stop using the vehicles and contact their local Ski-Doo® dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Consumers with recalled snowmobiles are being sent direct notice from BRP.
