American Honda Motor Co. is recalling Honda GCV160LA N1A engines used in Split Master by SpeeCo and Huskee brand log splitters because the fuel tank can crack and leak, creating a fire or explosion hazard. The recall affects only engines with serial numbers between 5547012 and 6880908, which can be found below the upper shroud near the oil dipstick. The specific affected log splitter models are the Huskee LS401227TS (22 Ton), LS401228NO (27 Ton), SpeeCo LS401228SP (22 Ton), LS401227NO (22 Ton), and LS401225NO (25 Ton), all in silver/black or red/black colors.
Consumers who own affected log splitters should immediately stop using them. Registered owners will receive a mailed notice, and consumers can contact any Honda Lawn and Garden dealer or Honda Engine dealer for a free repair to address the fuel tank issue.
