What happened

A. O. Smith is recalling water pump motors sold with lawn sprinkler pumps and jet pumps manufactured by F. E. Myers Co. between August 2007 and May 2008, as well as certain replacement motors sold separately. The recalled pumps are labeled as containing one-horsepower motors but actually contain 3/4-horsepower motors that can overheat under certain conditions, creating a fire hazard. Affected models include the QP10, QP10B, HJ100S, HJ100S-1, HJ100D, HJ100D-LR, HJ100D-1 lawn and jet pumps, and the 20935A000K replacement motor. Consumers can identify affected products by checking the nameplate or packaging for the manufacturing date code, the name "Myers," and the motor nameplate for "A. O. Smith" and model number "C48D52B86." Products marked with an "OK" sticker are not affected.

According to the recall, consumers should stop using the recalled units immediately and contact A. O. Smith to arrange for a free replacement of any pumps with affected motors or any affected replacement motors.

Smith" and model number "C48D52B86" on the motor's nameplate. The replacement motor's packaging has "Myers" and model number "20935A000K" printed on it. Products with an "OK" sticker on the product or packaging are not included in the recall.
