What happened

Venmar Ventilation Inc. is recalling heat recovery ventilators manufactured between October 2006 and August 2007 due to a fire hazard. The motors in these units can overheat, creating a fire risk. The recall affects numerous brands and models, including units sold under the Venmar, AVS, Flair, vänEE, Conformax, NuTone, Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Day & Night, Heil, York, Sears, Guardian by Broan, Rheem, Ruud, Protech, and Weatherking brand names. Model numbers can be found on a silver or black label on the outside panel of the unit.

Consumers who own one of the affected ventilators should immediately turn off and unplug the unit. They should then contact Venmar Ventilation to schedule an inspection and repair.

The "X" digit used in the model numbers can be either a letter or a number.
