What happened

Estes-Cox has recalled two models of radio control airplanes: the Sky Squadron Model 4153 (blue Corsair) sold at RadioShack and the Sky Rangers Model 4161 (red twin engine) sold at Walmart. Both models feature rechargeable lithium polymer batteries and have wingspans of approximately 18 to 20 inches with polystyrene foam fuselages. The airplanes can overheat while the battery is being recharged, creating a fire hazard.

Consumers who own either of these recalled models should stop using them immediately and contact Estes-Cox for return instructions to obtain a replacement product. The model numbers can be found on the product box and instructions.

This recall involves Sky Squadron Model 4153 (sold at RadioShack) and Sky Rangers Model 4161 (sold at Wal-Mart) radio controlled airplanes with rechargeable lithium batteries. The airplanes have a wingspan of about 18- to 20-inches and a polystyrene foam fuselage. Model 4153 is a blue Corsair single engine airplane with a Number 15 decal and a black and blue transmitter/charger. Model 4161 is a red twin engine plane with an all-black transmitter/charger.
