Year 2000 and 2001 Honda XR50R off-road motorcycles
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Honda and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled certain off-road motorcycles because the two bolts attaching the handlebars can break, causing the handlebars to separate from the motorcycle. When this occurs, the rider loses steering control and risks crashing and sustaining serious injuries.
The recall affects only red Honda XR50R motorcycles from model years 2000 and 2001. Consumers can identify affected motorcycles by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the left side of the steering head frame tube: 2000 models fall within VIN range JH2AE03YK000013 to JH2AE03YK0016046, and 2001 models fall within VIN range JH2AE031K010001 to JH2AE031K0110056. According to the record, affected consumers should stop using these motorcycles immediately and contact their local Honda motorcycle dealer to schedule a free repair.
