Apple is recalling lithium-ion batteries used in three models of older Apple computers: the 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, and 15-inch PowerBook G4. These batteries can overheat and pose a fire hazard to consumers. To identify whether a battery is affected, consumers should remove the battery from their computer and check the model and serial numbers on the bottom of the unit against the specific ranges listed for each computer model (A1061 batteries in iBooks, A1079 batteries in 12-inch PowerBooks, and A1078 or A1148 batteries in 15-inch PowerBooks).
Consumers with recalled batteries should stop using them immediately and contact Apple to arrange for a free replacement battery.
