Target and the CPSC have announced a recall of Back Trails Jr. brand bicycle helmets for toddlers, youth, and children that were manufactured after January 1, 2004. These helmets do not meet CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets, which creates a risk that riders could suffer head injuries. The recall covers four helmet styles with specific model numbers (89888, 88003, 89951, 88001, 89952, 88002, and 89917) that can be identified by a white label inside the helmet showing the model number, date of manufacture, and "Made in China." Target product identification numbers for the affected helmets appear on the packaging as 082-01-0520, 082-01-0149, 082-01-0189, and 082-01-0334.
Consumers who have these helmets should take them away from children and return them to the nearest Target Store for a gift card equal to a full refund.
