The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Whirlpool have announced a recall of KitchenAid ProLine countertop toasters in both 2-slice and 4-slice models due to a fire hazard. When power to the toaster is interrupted, the heating elements can unexpectedly restart on their own and ignite flammable items sitting on top of the unit.
The recalled models are KPTT780PM, KPTT780ER, KPPT780BU, and KPPT780TG (2-slice) and KPPT890PM, KPPT890ER, KPPT890BU, and KPPT890TG (4-slice), with serial numbers beginning with "WTP…" or "WTR…" printed on labels on the bottom. If you own one of these toasters, you should immediately unplug it and stop using it, then contact KitchenAid to arrange for a free replacement. Do not return the toaster to the retailer where it was purchased.

An interruption of power to the toaster can cause the heating elements to unexpectedly self-start and could ignite any flammable items left on top of the unit, posing a fire hazard.
Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the toaster and contact KitchenAid® to arrange for a free replacement. Consumers should not return the toaster to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take them back.
The recalled KitchenAid® ProLine® countertop toasters are painted die-cast metal or stainless steel and come in 2-slice or 4-slice models. The model and serial numbers, which are on labels affixed to the bottom of the toasters, include: 2 - Slice Models KPTT780PM KPTT780ER KPTT780BU KPTT780TG 4 - Slice Models KPTT890PM KPTT890ER KPTT890BU KPTT890TG Serial Numbers of the recalled products begin with the letters "WTP…" or "WTR…"
