What happened

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Whirlpool have announced a recall of dehumidifiers that can overheat and create a fire hazard. The recalled units were sold under the Whirlpool, Kenmore, and ComfortAire brand names. The dehumidifiers are white plastic units approximately 2 feet tall with a front-mounted water bucket and serial numbers beginning with QG, QH, QJ, QK, or QL. The serial number can be found on a label located on the wall behind the water bucket. Dehumidifiers with back-mounted water buckets are not part of this recall.

If you own one of these dehumidifiers, you should stop using it immediately and unplug it. According to the recall notice, you should contact Whirlpool to arrange for a free repair.
