Carrier Commercial Refrigeration, Inc. is recalling defrost heaters used in frozen food display cases sold to grocery stores. The recalled Electro-Heat Defrost Heater Model 51957100 can accumulate moisture that builds up pressure inside the unit, causing it to forcefully eject from the case and potentially injure people nearby. The heaters are internal components not visible to consumers and were used in Tyler brand "wide island" frozen food end cap cases in models NCE, NFE, NGE, NCGE, NFJEA, NCJEA, NCJGEA, and NFJGEA. The model and serial number can be found on the data plate located on the front inner panel of the case.
According to the recall notice, affected consumers should contact Tyler, who will replace the recalled defrost heater with a Cal-rod hairpin style heater at no charge. Store owners or managers with these cases should identify whether their equipment is affected by checking the model number on the data plate and then arrange for the replacement heater installation.
