Pacific Cycle Inc. is recalling Mongoose aluminum 20-inch-wheel D-XR AL dual-suspension mountain bicycles because the rear shock absorber can allow the aluminum frame to flex severely, become unstable, and break. This defect poses a risk of injury to riders. The affected bicycles are silver and red colored with "Mongoose" and "DXR AL" printed on the frame and have model number "R1590WMET" on the service sticker located on the bottom bracket tube near the pedals. Only aluminum-framed versions of the Mongoose 20-inch D-XR bicycle are affected; steel-framed versions are not included in this recall.
Consumers who own an affected bicycle should stop using it immediately and call Pacific Cycle Inc. to receive a free replacement rear shock and instructions for installation.
