What happened

Kelty and L.L. Kids backpack child carriers with seat height adjustment straps that can slip out of their buckles are being recalled. The affected models include Kelty's Expedition, Trek, Explorer, Country, Elite, and Town carriers, as well as L.L. Bean's L.L. KIDS carriers manufactured by Kelty. These blue carriers display the Kelty K.I.D.S. logo on the backrest or the Kelty logo on the black frame hinge. Carriers purchased before March 1999 have a different strap type and are not affected.

When the adjustment strap slips out of the buckle, a child can slide down unexpectedly and fall out of the carrier. Consumers should immediately stop using these carriers and contact Kelty for a free repair kit.
