CPSC, Southern Exchange Co. Inc. Announce Recall of Camp Mess Kits

What happened

The CPSC and Southern Exchange Co. Inc. are recalling a five-piece Texsport mess kit sold in green packaging labeled "item 13150." The kit contains a 5-inch aluminum sauce pan with cover, 6.5-inch aluminum plate, 7-inch aluminum fry pan, and 4 oz. blue plastic cup, all marked "Made in China." The sauce pan handle does not lock into place and the fry pan handle can bend during use, creating a hazard of spilling hot foods or liquids that could cause serious burns to consumers.

If you own this mess kit, you should stop using it immediately and return it to the store where you purchased it. According to the recall notice, the store will provide either a refund or a replacement mess kit.

Hazard

The mess kit's sauce pan handle does not lock into place and the mess kit's fry pan handle can bend during use, spilling hot foods or liquids onto consumers and causing serious burns.

The five-piece mess kit being recalled was sold under the Texsport label. The kit includes a 5-inch aluminum sauce pan and cover, a 6.5-inch aluminum plate, a 7-inch aluminum fry pan, and a 4 oz. blue plastic cup. "Made in China" is on the bottom of the cup and on the fry pan handle. The mess kit was packaged in a green box, labeled in part, "mess kit.. item 13150... one person... 5-Piece... Texsport."
