Huffy Sports Company and the CPSC have announced a recall of portable basketball hoops that may have a sharp protruding bolt on the player's side of the pole. This bolt is located approximately 20 inches from the ground and can cause serious leg or body lacerations when players collide with the pole while driving toward the basket or when they fall or are pushed into it. The recalled products are portable, vertically mounted Huffy-brand basketball systems with black-painted poles, a plastic weighted base (filled with sand or water), and the Huffy brand name on the backboard, main pole, or base.
According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately examine their units for a protruding bolt in the area of play. If a protruding bolt is found, consumers should contact Huffy Sports to receive free bolt covers.
