What happened

Remington Products Co., LLC is recalling 1600-watt Vortex Ultra hairdryers (model V-1030) because they lack an appliance leakage current interrupter (ALCI) plug. This safety device cuts off electrical current if the hairdryer comes into contact with water. Without it, dropping the hairdryer in water poses an electrocution hazard to consumers. The recalled hairdryers have a chrome body with black speed and heat controls, the model name printed in black on the air intake grill, and the model number and warning text printed in silver on the opposite side.

According to the recall notice, consumers who own these hairdryers should stop using them immediately. Remington will send owners a postage-paid shipping container to return their recalled unit. In exchange, consumers will receive a new 1875-watt Vortex hairdryer equipped with an ALCI plug.
