What happened

Applica Consumer Products Inc. and the CPSC are recalling Black & Decker® brand VersaToast™ wide-slot toasters in both two-slice and four-slice models. The toasters are identifiable by the brand and model names printed on the side near the cooking controls, and they come in white or black plastic. The affected models are numbered T1200, T1250, T1400, or T1450, which can be found printed on the bottom of the unit.

The heating element in these toasters can continue operating after use, which creates a fire hazard. According to the recall notice, consumers who own these toasters should unplug them immediately and stop using them.

Applica made and sold these toasters under the Black & Decker® brand. The recall includes both two-slice and four-slice Black & Decker® brand VersaToast™ wide-slot toasters. "BLACK & DECKER®," "VersaToast™" and "WIDE SLOT" are written on the side of the toaster, near the cooking controls. The toasters have either white or black plastic enclosures. They have model number T1200, T1250, T1400 or T1450 written on the bottom of the toaster.
