Moveable baseboard Heaters

  • Brand Honeywell Consumer Products Inc. (HCP), of Southborough, Mass.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Honeywell Consumer Products is recalling certain moveable baseboard heaters (model HZ-514) because the heating element can short-circuit and ignite combustible material underneath the unit, creating fire and burn hazards. The recalled heaters are approximately 40 inches long, 8 inches tall, and 4 inches wide, and are white with "Honeywell" printed on the front. You can identify a recalled unit by checking for a date code beginning with "97" on a sticker on the back or bottom, or a date code beginning with "8" or "9" stamped on the flat metal prong of the electrical cord's plug, or a date code beginning with "00" on the plug with "TYPE I" or nothing stamped on the bottom. Heaters with "01" on the plug or "TYPE II" on the bottom are not part of this recall.

Consumers with heaters matching the recall criteria should stop using them immediately and unplug them. You should then contact Honeywell Consumer Products to confirm whether your heater is part of the recall. If your unit is recalled, the company will provide instructions for mailing it back and will send you a free replacement heater.
