American Water Heater Co. is recalling certain natural gas water heaters because the burners could produce excess carbon monoxide (CO), which poses a risk of CO poisoning to consumers. The recall affects only water heaters sold under the brand names American Proline, Envirotemp, Mor-Flo, Powerflex, Premier Plus, and US Craftmaster with serial numbers starting with 0124 through 0127 on the data plate. The recalled units come in both short and tall profiles with capacities of 30, 40, 50, or 75 gallons.
To determine if you are affected, check the serial number on the data plate on the front of your water heater. If your serial number falls within the recall range and your unit matches one of the affected brands, you should contact American Water Heater Co. immediately to arrange for a free repair of the burner.
