What happened

The CPSC and Cisco have announced a recall of power adapters with part number 34-0949-02 used with certain Cisco ADSL routers. These small black AC adapters can overheat and melt through their housing, creating a fire hazard. Additionally, if the housing melts, exposed wires inside can pose an electrical shock hazard. The adapters were shipped with six router models: Cisco 827, Cisco 827-4V, Cisco 826, Cisco SOHO77, Cisco SOHO77-50, and Cisco 827-EUR, which are used in small businesses, offices, and home office settings.

Consumers who have these adapters should stop using them immediately and contact Cisco to obtain a free replacement adapter. The part number can be found on the adapter label below the Cisco Systems logo.
