What happened

Goodman Company is recalling air conditioning and heating units sold under the Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman, and York International brands. The units have power cords that can overheat, creating burn and fire hazards. The affected units are 230/208 volt, 3.5 kW Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps with beige coloring and serial numbers ranging from 0701009633 through 0804272329, typically installed in hotel, motel, and apartment building rooms.

Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the affected units. The record states that affected consumers should call the appropriate number listed or visit www.amana-ptac.com to request a free replacement power cord. Non-commercial owners will receive free installation of the replacement power cord and a free inspection of the PTAC control board; if damage is found, they will also receive a free replacement control board. If the control board has been damaged by the recalled power cord, Goodman will provide a new control board for commercial owners to install.
