The First Years Inc. is recalling "Elmo Nitelights" because the faceplate can break off, exposing internal wiring that poses shock and electrocution hazards. The nightlight features the red character Elmo from Sesame Street hanging onto a green lamp post on a blue background, with a moon and stars around the illuminated portion. It measures 4.25 inches long by 2.75 inches wide and fits over a standard outlet coverplate. The product has "Henson" and "the first years" printed on the back, and comes in packaging showing Big Bird with "SESAME STREET" and "nitelight" written on it.
According to the recall record, consumers should immediately remove the nightlights from their sockets and throw them away. If wires are exposed, consumers should turn off the power before removing the product. Consumers should then contact The First Years to receive a free replacement nightlight.
