What happened

Peoples Sausage Co. is recalling approximately 13,554 pounds of jerky and meat stick products sold under the MONTRAIL BISON brand that were produced without required federal inspection approval. The recalled products include various flavors of elk and bison jerky and bison wild sticks in 3-ounce and 4-ounce packages, produced between May 3, 2016 and June 15, 2018, with use-by dates ranging from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. These items were distributed to retail locations in Montana and bear establishment number EST. 4160 inside the USDA inspection mark. The problem was discovered on June 22, 2018 during an inspection, and no adverse reactions have been reported.

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2018 Peoples Sausage Co., a Los Angeles, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 13,554 pounds of jerky and meat stick products that were produced without an approved voluntary grant of inspection, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The shelf stable jerky and meat stick products were produced on various dates from May 3, 2016 through June 15, 2018. The following products are subject to recall: [ View Labels (PDF only)] 4-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON WILD STICKS Hot and Spicy with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON LLC. Elk Jerky Lemon Chile with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON LLC. Elk Jerky Teriyaki with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON Elk Jerky Sweet and Spicy with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON Elk Jerky Old Fashioned with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON LLC. Bison Jerky Lemon Chile with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. 3-oz plastic bags containing MONTRAIL BISON LLC. Bison Jerky Old Fashioned with a use by date from May 3, 2018 to June 15, 2020. The products subject to recall bear establishment number EST. 4160 inside the triangle shaped USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Montana. The problem was discovered on June 22, 2018 during an FSIS investigation. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
