What happened

Puritan Foods Co., Inc., a Boston-based company, recalled approximately 2,476 pounds of raw boneless turkey breasts with pack dates of June 11 and July 18, 2014, because the product contains milk, a known allergen, that was not declared on the label. The turkey breasts were labeled as "butter basted," but this information was not carried over to the finished product label, and since milk is a sub-ingredient in butter, it should have been noted. The product was distributed to hotels, restaurants, and institutions in the New England area.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the misbranding issue while checking product labels. No reports of adverse reactions have been received. The source document does not specify a remedy for affected consumers but indicates that consumers concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider, and those with questions about the recall can contact Christopher Mendez at (617) 596-4917.
