What happened

On January 5, 2017, 4G Meat Processing LLC recalled approximately 1,288 pounds of pork and turkey Caldarello Italian Sausage rope products produced between June 28, 2016, and December 20, 2016. The sausages were misbranded because they contain Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) that is not declared on the product label, and the individual cryovac packages lack both an ingredients statement and safe handling instructions. The affected products are 8-pound cases containing 1-pound packages of either pork or turkey sausage with case codes 335000 and 437800 respectively, bearing establishment number EST. 7147 inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were distributed to Missouri locations.

The problem was discovered on January 3, 2017, when Missouri Department of Agriculture investigators found the products missing required labeling on individual packages, though the master cases were properly labeled. No adverse health reactions have been reported from consuming these products. The recall notification does not specify a remedy for consumers to follow.
