What happened

The Coca-Cola Company recalled certain Diet Dr Pepper and Dr Pepper 12-ounce cans sold in Arizona, Oregon, and Washington. In a small percentage of the affected cans, the oval covering that normally pushes down into the can when opened instead opens upward, producing a loud "pop" sound.
