What happened

Merck Sharp & Dohme is recalling Zerbaxa (ceftolozane and tazobactam) 1.5g per vial for injection nationwide. The recall affects approximately 106,503 vials across 41 lot numbers with expiry dates ranging from June 2021 through April 2023. The recall was initiated because sterility test results from seven batches of product were out of specification—five batches tested positive for the bacterium Ralstonia pickettii and two batches showed turbid results that could not be identified. Although all product that was actually distributed to the market passed the required sterility tests at release, it was manufactured on the same equipment used for the affected batches, creating concern about potential contamination.

The source document does not specify a remedy or action that affected consumers should take.
