Toyota is recalling certain 2022 Rav4, Rav4 Hybrid, and Rav4 Prime vehicles due to a potential defect in the front passenger seat. The Occupant Classification System sensor in these vehicles may incorrectly detect whether a passenger is present due to interference between internal seat parts. This faulty detection could cause the front passenger air bag to deploy improperly during a crash, potentially increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
To address this issue, Toyota dealers will inspect and repair the front passenger seat at no charge to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 2, 2022. Affected consumers should contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331 to schedule an appointment, referencing recall number 22TA08.
