General Motors is recalling certain 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles equipped with an accessory sport bar. The high-mounted brake light on the accessory bar may not function properly and could block the vehicle's existing high-mounted brake light, reducing visibility to other drivers and increasing crash risk. These vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 for lamps and reflective devices.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect the installation of the accessory bar and provide correct vehicle wiring at no cost if necessary. Owners received interim notification letters on August 10, 2022, and official notification letters on January 27, 2023. General Motors (GM) has decided that certain 2022 model year Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra vehicles equipped with an accessory sport bar. The accessory sport bar contains a high-mounted brake light that may not function. In addition, it may block the vehicle's existing high-mounted brake light. As such, these vehicles may fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
