Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Tesla is recalling certain 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2022 Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles because the Boombox function, which plays sounds through an external speaker while the vehicle is moving, can obscure the Pedestrian Warning System sounds. This creates a safety risk because pedestrians may not hear the vehicle approaching, potentially leading to a crash. The vehicles fail to meet federal sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Tesla will fix this issue by sending a free over-the-air software update that will disable the Boombox functionality when the vehicle is in Drive, Neutral, or Reverse modes. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 5, 2022. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for more information about this recall, identified as SB-22-00-003.
