What happened

General Motors is recalling certain 2007-2011 full-size pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and extended cab models from Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac, as well as certain 2009-2011 Chevrolet and GMC heavy-duty trucks. The recalled vehicles were originally sold or registered in specific high-humidity and high-temperature regions, including southern and western U.S. states and U.S. territories. These vehicles are equipped with passenger front air bag inflators that may explode due to propellant degradation caused by prolonged exposure to heat, humidity, and temperature changes, potentially sending sharp metal fragments at occupants and causing serious injury or death.

GM notified owners with interim safety risk letters on February 22, 2021, and owner notification letters on March 1, 2021. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate one at no cost once the remedy becomes available. Affected owners will receive a second notification letter when the replacement parts are available. Owners of recalled vehicles can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 (recall number N212328760).
