What happened

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles equipped with 2.5 liter engines because the bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and detach. This condition could allow drivers to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key while the transmission remains in a different gear without any warning, potentially causing the vehicle to move unexpectedly if exited without the parking brake applied.

Ford will notify owners starting September 10, 2019, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing at no charge. Until repairs are completed, owners should use the parking brake when exiting the vehicle. Affected owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or reference recall number 19S16.
