Fontaine Trailer Company — STRUCTURE

Is my product affected?

2019 FONTAINE INFINITY

  • Brand FONTAINE

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Fontaine Trailer Company is recalling certain 2019 Fontaine Infinity trailers because they have incorrect rear impact guards that may not adequately reduce the risk of a car traveling under the trailer during a crash. The problem occurred because the rear impact guards were designed for a wheels-back trailer configuration, but the customer moved the wheel set forward, changing the trailer's configuration and causing it to fail to comply with federal safety standards for rear impact guards and protection.

To remedy this issue, Fontaine dealers will remove the existing C-channel style horizontal member and replace it with a 4-inch tube and reinforcement gusset at no cost to the owner. The recall began on September 14, 2018. Owners of affected trailers should contact Fontaine customer service at 1-877-345-9526.

What should I do?

Fontaine will notify owners, and dealers will remove the C-channel style horizontal member and replace it with a 4-inch tube and reinforcement gusset, free of charge. The recall began September 14, 2018. Owners may contact Fontaine customer service at 1-877-345-9526.

Details from the source

Fontaine Trailer Company (Fontaine) is recalling certain 2019 Fontaine Infinity trailers. These trailers were built with an under ride guard compliant for a wheels back trailer configuration, however, due to the customers design changes, the wheel set was moved forward and the vehicles no longer meet the definition of a wheels back trailer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 223, "Rear Impact Guards," and 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
