What happened

Daimler Vans USA is recalling certain 2013 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles because the passenger front air bag inflators may explode during a crash. The inflators can degrade over time due to exposure to humidity and temperature changes, and if deployed in an accident, an explosion could send sharp metal fragments at the driver or other occupants, causing serious injury or death.

Owners will be notified of the recall, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module at no cost. An interim notification was sent to owners on March 13, 2018, and the recall officially began December 28, 2018. Affected consumers should contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.
