What happened

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2006 Ford Ranger trucks due to a hazard with the passenger side frontal air bag inflator. If the air bag deploys in a crash, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode, potentially sending sharp metal fragments at vehicle occupants and causing serious injury or death. The recall began on January 16, 2018, and was expanded from 2,700 vehicles to a total of 33,310 model year 2006 Ranger vehicles.

Ford will notify owners instructing them not to drive their vehicles until repairs are made. Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator with an alternate inflator at no cost to owners. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or reference Ford recall number 18S02 to arrange for the replacement.
