What happened

Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, and Dodge Charger vehicles, along with 2009-2011 Dodge Dakota vehicles and certain 2009-2010 RAM cab chassis models. The vehicles affected depend on their registration location, with different model years recalled in different geographic zones across the United States and U.S. territories. The issue involves the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator, which may explode due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. If the inflator deploys during a crash, it could rupture and send sharp metal fragments toward occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Owners of affected vehicles should not drive them until the recall repair is completed. Chrysler will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator at no charge. The recall began on February 28, 2018. Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information, and the recall number is U03.
