What happened

Mazda is recalling certain 2007-2012 Mazda CX-7 vehicles manufactured between February 14, 2006, and May 9, 2012. Water can enter the front suspension ball joint fittings in these vehicles, and if that water contains salt (such as from treated snowy roads), the ball joint may corrode and separate from the lower control arm, which can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front lower control arms at no charge. The company began this recall on September 20, 2017, and is prioritizing 2007-2008 vehicles plus 2009-2011 vehicles currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. Remaining vehicles will be addressed as parts become available. Affected owners should contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 and reference recall number 9716H.
