Champion Bus, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2015 transit buses equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models. The problem involves folding link arms with pivot holes that are too large, which can allow bearings to shift out of position. If the bearings move, the stowed wheelchair lift platform may move excessively and fail, potentially causing the platform to fall out of the vehicle when doors are opened. This poses an injury risk to lift operators.
Champion will notify owners and have Ricon inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings, as well as inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost to the owner. The recall started on December 21, 2015. Affected consumers should contact Champion customer service at 1-810-724-1753 extension 415 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884 (Champion recall number 15E-068). Vehicles that received the remedy from a similar 2014 recall remain affected by this recall.
