Chrysler is recalling certain 2006 Dodge Viper and Jeep Wrangler and Liberty vehicles manufactured between July 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006. The clutch pedal position switch in these vehicles may have springs that can break, which could prevent the engine from starting when the clutch pedal is pushed down or allow it to start without the clutch pedal being engaged. This defect creates a risk that the vehicle could unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners and replace the clutch ignition interlock switch at no cost to the owner. Affected owners should contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to arrange the replacement with a dealer. The recall number is R13, and the replacement process began on August 31, 2015.
