Toyota is recalling certain 2011-2012 Toyota Avalon vehicles manufactured between February 9, 2010, and October 22, 2012, due to a potential electrical problem in the audio system. The sub-woofer speaker in the trunk may experience an intermittent electrical short that damages the integrated circuit in the audio amplifier. When this damage occurs, it can cause a constant electrical current to flow to the sub-woofer, which may cause it to overheat and increase the risk of fire.
Toyota dealers will replace the audio system amplifier and install a protective cover around the sub-woofer at no cost. The recall began on July 1, 2015, and Toyota will notify owners of the recall. Affected consumers should contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 to arrange service.
