Ameritrans Bus, Inc. is recalling certain 2012-2014 Ford E Series and Freightliner M2 Series shuttle buses equipped with specific Ricon Corporation wheelchair lift models. The platform side plates on these lifts may crack, which can cause the lift platform to separate from the lift and rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall out, posing an injury risk to lift operators.
To address this issue, Ameritrans will notify bus owners to take their shuttle buses to a Ricon dealer or service center, where supplemental platform support bumpers will be installed at no cost. Any platform that has already begun cracking will be replaced free of charge. Owners can contact Ameritrans customer service at 1-574-262-8935 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884 for more information about the recall, which began on January 5, 2015.
