Is my product affected?

2014 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER HYBRID; 2014 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER

  • Brand TOYOTA

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Toyota is recalling certain 2014 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles because of a software problem in the air bag electronic control unit. The affected vehicles may have improper software that controls how the front passenger seat belt force limiter works. Due to this defect, the force limiter may apply restraint settings designed for small occupants (around 110 pounds) to all passengers regardless of their actual size. This means larger front passenger seat occupants may not be properly restrained during a crash and could face an increased risk of injury.

Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles, and authorized dealers will install a software update to the air bag electronic control unit at no cost. The recall began on June 27, 2014. Owners of potentially affected vehicles should contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

Details from the source

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2014 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles may have improper software installed in the air bag electronic control unit (ECU) for the operation of the front passenger seat belt force limiter, and as a result, the force limiter may use the restraint setting designed for small occupants, such as those that weigh approximately 110 pounds, for all occupants regardless of their size. As such, some of these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
