What happened

Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling certain 2013 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured between June 11, 2012, and September 11, 2012. These vehicles have a defective stop lamp switch that may cause the brake lights to illuminate continuously or intermittently, preventing other drivers from seeing when the vehicle is braking. Additionally, the defect allows the shift lever to be moved out of Park without pressing the brake pedal, which could cause the vehicle to roll unexpectedly.

Mitsubishi will notify owners and dealers will repair the stop lamp switch installation at no cost. The recall began on April 18, 2013. Affected owners should contact Mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820 and reference campaign recall number SR-13-004.
